One of the earliest examples of its use is the relief of Hercules carved into the living rock of the ancient Roman Rasohe quarry near the village of Škrip on the island of Brač. Among the many notable structures built with Brač stone are the White House, the official residence of the President of the United States, Diocletian's Palace, and numerous other landmarks and works of art around the world.
